RULES
Causes of disqualification:
Any instance of violation of the following rules will result in immediate disqualification from the event.
Vehicles/Support/Shadowing:
Participants should plan on being self-sufficient while on the course. Any support given to a participant on course should be done so in a manner that does not impede the flow of other participants or traffic.
Riding/Running on the Designated Side of the Road and Sharing of the Road:
Our event starts with a Mass-Bike Start and therefore we conduct a “Neutral Start” through the Mechanicsville Rd section. What this means is that the peloton will remain largely together through the Mechanicsville Rd section and behind the Pace Vehicle. This “Neutral Start” reduces the chances of collision and decreases the impact to the normal flow of traffic. Once riders turn onto Charlotte Rd (just past the Police Crossing Guard) riders are free to go at their desired pace. All Riders should remain on the right hand side of the road and flow with traffic. We are sharing the road and it will not be closed to normal traffic flow. Police Crossing Guard assistance will occur at intersections requiring crossing of the street on the bike route.
During the cycling portion of the event signs will be placed on the Right side of the road and participants should always be on the same side of the road as the signage.
During the running portion of the event signs will be placed on the Left side of the road and participants should always be on the same side of the road as the signage. Runners will be running on the Left side of the road and will be running against the flow of traffic. We cannot have runners on both sides of the road for safety reasons.
Cycling Specific Rules:
Time Trial Bicycles are not permitted in the Dynamic Duathlon due to safety concerns. All participants must wear helmets. Any rider at the start line without a helmet on will not be allowed to participate.
Public/Private Property damage:
In order to hold this event the towns, business and homes along the route must be respected. This event is considered a pack in pack out event for all normal trash. Restrooms will be provided at the Start/Finish/Transition Area and any public littering, urination or defecation on private property will result in immediate disqualification. Willful littering while on the course will not be permitted.
Noise:
People should feel free to have a good time during this event, it is meant to bring us together in positive ways. Please be conscious of your noise level when traveling through residential areas. We are sharing the environment with others.
Pets:
We all love pets but we love for them to stay at home during the event. No pet of any kind will be permitted to participate in any leg of the race.
Rollerblades/Skateboards etc:
Rollerblades, skateboards and other such equipment is not permitted on the course.
Official Course Vehicles:
A lead vehicle will guide the peloton through the Town of Hinesburg and then will speed ahead of the event looking out for potential hazards. An Emergency Medical Specialist will also be driving the course to provide first aid should the need arise. In the rear of the event, a Sag Wagon will be available to pick up any riders who are unable to continue the event.
Cyclist Dropouts:
Should a cyclist decide to drop out of the event, they should remain riding throughout the course if possible, and should remain on the lookout for the Sag Wagon. Bike Route cards will be passed out at registration with a phone number to call should the need arise and transportation can be arranged. If a cyclist is part of a team and they are unable to complete the cycling portion of the event, they may call the phone number on the Bike Route card and word will be given to their team member that they may begin the run portion of the event once the very first cyclist returns to the transition and begins the run.
Alcohol/Drugs:
All Vermont open container and drug laws apply to this event and violation might result in arrest and disqualification.
Headphones/Cellphones:
One-earpiece headphones are the only acceptable method of headphones for runners on the course. Any headphone that blocks the participant’s ability to hear traffic or directives from course staff may result in disqualification. Cell phones are not allowed while running or riding, however we do think it a smart idea to have a cell phone on your bicycle during the cycling portion of the event. The majority of races are banning iPod’s/Walkmans, and the future use of these devices in this event depends upon you.
